Sample Sale 2023!

It’s spring in the Northern Hemisphere, which means it’s a great time to buy a unique sample knit of your own! (Maybe that’s not even sarcastic; they’re good for layering through changeable weather and it’s still winter here for another month.)

Tentatively, this one will run through late April 2023. Most samples should ship in 1-3 days via USPS.

Sample sale sales help with future patterns in a few ways: profits go back into pattern-development-related expenses, but it also frees up both studio and mental space for new designs.

If you’d rather knit your own, my main focus is selling patterns for my original designs, and you can currently browse all of those on Ravelry.

I’ll be gradually adding other samples, probably continuing to work backwards from my latest designs, so please be sure to check back soon if you’re interested.

BeesBeesBees Cowl in Handspun Grey-and-Yellow Gradient Merino Wool—Unique and Ready to Ship

BeesBeesBees is a pullover/neckwarmer-style cowl, hand knit by me in unique handspun yarn! The yarn is grey and yellow—a murky colorway that may not be to everyone’s tastes, although it’s a favorite of mine—and the cowl is made up of gradient hexagons. The listed price includes domestic US shipping; if you’re interested in international shipping, please let me know!

Auks Cowl—Hand Knit Sample Sale, Ready to Ship!

This is the sample for the Auks Cowl! It appears I did not save the changed copy of the template I was using. Anyway, this cowl uses fancy hand-dyed yarn from Juliespins for the poison green color contrast patches, and a nice subtle gradient marled yarn, purple Cascade Heritage Wave Sock, as its main color. It’s knit from lightweight yarns, but features two layers of fabric, and it’s fully reversible. US shipping is included.

CUSTOM ORDER (please allow 3-4 weeks): Calico Critters Caramel Dog Family with Little Knitted Accessories

This is a little bit of a weird one, but basically I can knit little accessories for little inanimate creatures, and I am willing to do this as a commission as time permits! Essentially, commission me, and I’ll procure this set (please ask if you’d prefer rabbits), knit them little hats, and ship them along to you (US domestic shipping included). If the original packaging isn’t presentable, these will ship in a sturdy recyclable box. Knit accessories will vary, but I’ll try to match the colors and personalities suggested by the little dudes. To sum up: this listing is for Caramel Dog Family with random handknit accessories! Contact before purchasing with any questions or requests. One currently available; allow 3-4 weeks for delivery. This is a *little* bit of a different commission to my regular ones. I have no idea if there’s interest for this kind of thing, but boy do I love occasionally knitting tiny stuff for little faux animals.

A quick note on pricing:

My current pricing model for this run is determined with a kind of trunk-sale studio clearance in mind, rather than trying to reflect an elevated art/fashion ideal where the prices would definitely be much higher—or even an hourly or yardage-based reasonable wage for competent handknitting. Depending on your experience and perspective, and whether you compare them to big-box stores or designer labels, these prices may seem either really high or really abysmally low.

And reader, believe it or not, they are really pretty low, objectively. They’re not only trunk sale prices for unique handknits from original designs, but they’re trunk sale prices for original knits based on a pre-inflation 2019 mindset, realistically. This is not really to sell you on buying something—either a $70-100 shawl feels like a good purchase to you or it doesn’t, depending on a lot of factors!—but to acknowledge that pricing can be a wild, heated debate in indie design, knitting, and handmaker spheres, and that calls for higher pricing are often legitimate.

If this does influence you in any way, I think I would like to influence you to please, please never ask your knitting friend to knit you a shawl from scratch for a going rate based on this page. Because again, trunk sale! Studio sale! Bargain pricing for handknit items in quality yarns! (SEO optimization! Maybe?) And it’s not really fair to expect anyone else to make similar pricing decisions.
